Orhan Kahyaoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1960. He graduated from the Department of International Relations in the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University. He started working as a music critic with his book Pink Floyd (with Sinan Güler), which was published in 1984. He has written music critiques and writings in many newspapers and various magazines. He has published Jethro Tull (1991 and 2000) and Bülent Ortaçgil: Ayrı Düşmüşüz Yanyana (2002). Kahyaoğlu has also written poetry and essays and published them in numerous magazines and reviews. In 1984, he was one of the members who published the magazine İmage /Ayrım. He served as a publication director of the poetry magazine Sombahar (1990-1996) and Ludingrra (1997-1999). Kahyaoğlu has published two poetry books: Hoyrat Bir Ruhun Eksilme Tablolar (1993) and Aşk ve Harf (2000). He served as the Chairman of the Music Department at Academy Istanbul from 1995 to 2002.
