Emine Sevgi Özdamar was born in Malatya in 1946. She is a Turkish-German actress, director and playwright. She performed on a stage in Bursa at the age of 12. After working in Germany from 1965-1967, she returned to Turkey and studied theater with Muhsin Ertuğrul, Beklan Algan, Ayla Algan, Haldun Taner, Melih Cevdet Anday, and Nurettin Sevin. After graduating in 1970, she moved to Berlin and worked as an assistant of Benno Besson and Mathias Langhoff. Özdamar then worked as a playwright and actress at many city theaters in Berlin, Paris, Avignon, Lyon, Munich, Frankfurt, and Bochum. She is known for her performance in the film "Yasemin" (1988), "Süperseks" (2004), and "Happy Birthday, Türkei!" (1992). Since 1982, Özdamar has worked as a freelance. She has received many literary awards such as "Ingeborg Bachmann Award" for her work. Currently Özdamar lives and works in Berlin.
