Bahçet Çelik was born in Adana in 1968. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University in 1990. He published his first essay in Yeni Adana newspaper (1986), and his first story in the literary journal “Varlık” (1987). Since then, he has written and published many stories, essays and translations in various newspapers and literary magazines such as “Yazılı Günler” and “Virgül”. In 1989, Çelik received the Story Award of Merit from the Academy Bookstore. He also won the Sait Faik Story Award for the book “Gün Ortasında Arzu” in 2008. In addition to his short story books such as “İki Deli Dervis” (1992), “Yazyalınızı” (1996), “Herkes Kadar” (2002), “Düğün Birahanesi” (2004), and “Gün Prtasında Arzu” (2007), Çelik has also published his first novel “Dünyanın Uğultusu” (2009) and his compilation “Diken Ucu” (2010), for which he received Milliyet Haldun Taner Story Award in 2011. His story “Çok Tanıdık, Çok Bildik” has been included in the book “Istanbul Noir” (2008), which was published in the US. The story “Soğuk Bir Ateş” has been translated into Dutch and published in the book “Stad en Mens”. In 2011, Çelik published his fiction “Sınıfın Yenisi”.
