Barış Müstecaplioğlu was born in İzmit in 1977. After graduating from the Department of Civil Engineering at Boğaziçi University, he began working as a Human Resources Specialist.

His short stories for youth as well as his book reviews have been published in literary magazines such as "E Edebiyat," "Varlık," "Altyazı," and "Kitap-lık." In 1995, he received the Istek Foundation Alumni Association′s İffet Esen Short Story Award. The first book of his four-book series with the title "Legends of Perg" was "Korkak ve Canavar" (The Coward and the Beast) published in 2002. I was followed by the second book "Merderan′ın Sırrı" (Merderan′s Secret, 2002) and the third book "Bataklık Ülke" (Boggy Land, 2004). The Perg series, published by Metis Edebiyat, came to an end after the fourth book "Tanrıların Alfabesi" (The Alphabet of the Gods, 2005).

After the series "Legends of Perg", Müstecaplıoğlu published three novels: "Şakird" (The Disciple, 2005), "Kardeş Kanı" (Brothers Blood, 2006), and "Bir Hayaldi Gerçekten Güzel" (Beautiful Dreams, 2009) in different genres.  His lastest book in the fantasy genre is "Şamanlar Diyarı" (The Land of Shamans, 2012). His books have been translated and published in different countries including Bulgaria, Serbia, China, Germany, Syria, Poland, Romania, and India. One of his crime stories has been published in America in a short story anthology entitled "Istanbul Noir."
Müstecaplıoğlu also writes reviews and essays for various magazines. He is the General Coordinator of Fantasy and Science Fiction Arts Association (FABİSAD).
