Ahmet Yorulmaz was born in Ayvalık in 1932. He started his literary life by translating Modern Greek literature. First, he translated short stories and poems, then children’s books and novels. He also worked as a journalist in Izmir, Istanbul and Ayvalık. In 1963 he founded the Geylan Publication House. After running his publication house for 33 years, Yorulmaz retired to be able to write and translate his works. His book, Savaşın Çocukları - Girit’ten Sonra Ayvalık (Children of War - After Crete, Ayvalık) is about the compulsory population exchange between Greece and Turkey. It was recognized as the first and only novel written by a Turk about the “exchange” in a conference held at Oxford University.
