Erol Büyükmeriç was born in Istanbul in 1942. He graduated from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at Anadolu University. He worked as an engineer and teacher in Adana, Diyarbakır, Istanbul, Manisa, and Eskişehir. In 1969 Büyükmeriç held his first caricature exhibition in Eskişehir. He published his first novel Yergök. In 1998-1999 he published periodical for children Meriç Kardeş (4 issues). Büyükmeriç has exhibited his caricatures in various cities in Turkey. In 2002 he taught the literature for children at Osmangazi University. Büyükmeriç has published novels, poetry works, and writings in various magazines and journals such as Varlık, Çağdaş Türk Dili, Güzel Yazıları, and Düzyazı Defteri. In 2006-2012 he published periodical Yazılıkaya Şiir with Rahmi Emeç. He won a mention award for his novel Son İki Çocuk in the Mevlüt Kaplan Literature Awards in 1999. In 2004 he was selected "Writer of the Literature for Children of the Year" by the Eskişehir Association of Contemporary Journalists. He also won the First Youth Award with his novel Midas′ın Serçeparmağı in the 2006 World Book Golden Page Competition. Büyükmeriç is a member of Turkish Writers Union, ÇGYD, and the Caricature Association.
