Eray Canberk was born in Istanbul in 1940. After graduating from the Department of French Language and Literature in the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University, he taught at a primary school from 1964 to 1966. After completing his military service, he worked as a translator, publication director, and advisor at several publishing houses between 1966 and 1969. He then taught at a primary school from 1969 to 1975, and worked at publishing firms in 1975-1981. He then founded and directed Kavram Publications with Afşar Timuçin. Canberk has written many articles for various encyclopedias, dictionaries and children′s magazines. Since 1963, his poems, stories, essays, critiques, diaries, and articles have been published in many magazines and journals including Yelken, Varlik, Yeditepe, Şiir Sanatı, Yeni Gerçek, May, Broy, Yandıma, Adam Sanat, Ludinngrirra, Hürriyet Gösterdi, Cumhuriyet Kitap, and Dünya Evi. He has also translated many works of famous writers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Françoise Sagan, Cavanna, Lotfi Akalay, Art Buchwald, and Félicien Challey. In 2010, Canberk won a "Literature Award" at the Troy Culture and Art Awards, which was organized by the Troy Folklore Research Association. In 2013, Canberk received the 2013 PEN Poetry Award. Currently, he serves as an advisor in a publishing house, and writes columns for a newspaper.
