Egemen Berköz was born in Ereğli in 1941. He graduated from the Department of Italian Language and Literature in the Faculty of Language, History and Geography at Ankara University. After working as a translator for Cumhuriyet Encyclopedia for a while, he worked as a scripter in an advertising agency. Since 1950s his poems and essays have been published in various literary magazines and reviews including Dönem, Papirüs, Ataç, Devinim, Dost, Soyut, Yeditepe and Yelken. In addition to his literary works, Berköz has translated various Italian poetry and stories into Turkish. In 2016 Berköz received a Behçet Necatigil 100th Poetry Endeavour Award. He is a member of the Turkish PEN Centre.
