Gencay Kasapcı was born in Ankara in 1933. She graduated from the State Academy of Fine Arts in 1954. After winning a scholarship from the Italian Government, she went to Italy and worked on fresco and mosaic with Prof. Collaccki at Academy. She stayed in Rome between 1960 and 1967. She has had many solo exhibitions and workshops, and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. In 1963, Kasapcı painted 11 m2 mosaic wall for Ziraat Bank in Ankara. After she returned to Turkey, Kasapcı designed and made some ceramic wall paintings for the Middle East Technical University, Iş Bank Headquarters in Ankara as well as Divan and Etap Marmara Hotel in Istanbul. Between 1976 and 1983, Kasapcı worked as an art consultant and manager in Vakko Art Gallery in Ankara. She founded Mİ-GE Art Gallery with Mine Özman. In Mersin, Kasapcı designed and made “Freedom Monument” statue in 1994; “Orange Tree” statue in 1995. Between 1994 and 2000, she worked as an art consultant in the Replica Art Gallery in Istanbul. Her works can be seen in many collections in Turkey and foreign countries. Some of her paintings were printed as cards by TEMA, UNICEF and TAP. As of today, Kasapcı continues to work at her own workshop in Mersin.
