Fikri Cantürk was born in Karalar village in Ankara in 1933. He finished at the Painting-Working Department of Gazi Education Institution in 1957. After teaching at several schools, he went to France and studied at Ecole Pratique de langue Francaise and Academie et Ateliers Ranson in Paris between 1965 ad 1966. After returning to Turkey, he continued teaching at Kütahya primary school for Girls (1967-1969), Samsun Education Institute (1970-1974) and Samsun Teacher’s College (1974-1980). Cantürk entered Ondokuz Mayıs University in Samsun, and graduated from the Department of Painting-Working Education in the Faculty of Education in 1983. He worked as a Department Chair at the Department of Painting-Working Education in the Faculty of Education of Anadolu University, and received the title of Associate Professor in 1989, and Professor in 1993. Cantürk founded his workshop in Ankara, and worked on painting between 1985 and 1989. He has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions and conferences in Turkey. He retired from teaching in 1998. His works can be seen in many public and private collections in Turkey and abroad including Ankara State Museum of Painting and Sculpture Collection, Izmir State Museum of Painting and Sculpture Collection, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism Collection, Iş Bank Collection and İlisulu Collection. Currently, Cantürk continues to work at his workshop in Eskişehir.
