Aydın Teker graduated from the Department of Ballet at the Ankara State Conservatory in 1973 and joined the Ankara State Opera and Ballet as a dancer. In 1976 she received a scholarship and went to London and the USA. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from State University of New York. In 1978-1980 Teker performed in the Kazuko Hirabayashi Dance Theatre in New York. She also danced in the Marcus Schulkind Dance Company (1978) and New Haven Dance Repertory Company (1979). In 1982 Teker returned to Turkey and began working as a modern dance teacher and choreographer at Mimar Sinan University where she received her diploma of Adequacy in 1993. She also taught modern dance technique and improvisation at several Universities: New York University School of the Arts (1980-1981); State Theatre (1988); Anadolu University (1989-1990); and Istanbul University (1992-1993). In 1992 she founded the “Aydın Teker Dance Company”.

In 1993 Teker received a Fulbright Research Scholarship and went to New York again for a year to explore new developments on somatic theories.  Her choreographies and site specific performances have been shown around the world and won many awards. She was the head of the Modern Dance Department in Mimar Sinan University between 1996 and 2006. Currently Teker teaches in the Modern Dance Department at the State Conservatory of Mimar Sinan University and Koç University.
