Selahattin Ölçeroğlu was born in Eskişehir in 1946. He is an industrial designer and interior architect. He is known as the first Turkish pyrographic artist who made aesthetic artworks by burning the wooden panels in all medium tones. He first met the art of pyrography in the late 1950s. He improved his skills in burning design onto wood and was able to obtain all medium tones of burnt wood colors. He made his first fine pyrographic work utilizing his own burning methods in 1965 when he was 19 years old. Since then Ölçeroğlu has made many beautiful pyrographic artworks in exquisite color tones using the rare technique. He generally prefers working on reviving the old engravings related to Istanbul made by European artists in the 19th century. His aim is to keep these beautiful documentary artworks alive and to introduce them to young generations. In 1999, Ölçeroğlu had his solo exhibition at the Tarık Zafer Tunaya Cultural Center in Istanbul. Currently, he continues his work in Istanbul.
