Rengin Alkın was born in Eskişehir in 1965. She graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Yıldız Technical University in 1987. After working in different sectors as an engineer, she worked on quality systems between 1995 and 2004. In 2005, Alkın participated in a class, which was sponsored by the European Union Projects, and learned glass ornament art. She continued to attend various workshops and completed the course "Training Entrepreneur Artist in Field of Traditional Turkish Ornament Arts and Handicrafts", receiving a certificate supported by European Commission. In 2008, Alkın applied to the KİŞGEM (Istanbul Development Center for Women), which was organized by Pendik Municipality, KOSGEB and the European Union, and was accepted to have her showroom and workshop in the KİŞGEM. In 2009, she founded another workshop in Pendik. In the same year, she made glass objects and sold them to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. She started teaching glass ornament art.

Alkın has been registered as a glass ornament artist by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2010. She was given the title "carriers of the intangible cultural heritage" by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2010. This title is recognized by UNESCO. Currently, she continues to develop her practice at her workshop as well as teaches at a Public Education Centre, which is supported by the Turkish Education Ministry.
