Ahmet Altınel was born in Istanbul. He started music education with Mete Yesügey at the Department of Violin of Istanbul University State Conservatory. He graduated from the class of Çiğdem Yonat-İyicil in the same department in 1993. He then continued to study with Cengiz Tanç and Volkan Barut in the Department of Composition and Orchestra Conducting at Mimar Sinan University, State Conservatory, and graduated in 1998. Between 1998 and 2000, Altınel went to Germany and pursued his master’s degree on viola with Nobuko Imai at the Detmold Music Academy. During his study, Altınel attended class of Ayla Erduran and Frank Reinecke. In 1996, he attended the Jeunesses Musicales Orchestras in Switzerland. In the same year, he represented Turkey in the section of chamber music in the Ecume Mediterranean Countries Conservatories Festival. Altınel worked as a member of the Detmolder Kammerorchester in Germany between 1998 and 2000. He then worked as a principal violist in the CRR Symphony Orchestra in 2000. Since 1996, Altınel is a member of violists in the Akbank and Milli Reasürans Chamber Orchestra. He has also worked as a principal viola player in the Istanbul Chamber Orchestra since 2002. In recent years, he has concentrated on composing music. His composition works, including the work for different instruments and electronic music works, have been played in many concerts and festivals. Currently, Altınel teaches in the Department of Composition at Mimar Sinan University, State Conservatory and is continuing his doctoral degree at MIAM of Istanbul Technical University.
