Prof. Dr. Oluş Arık graduated from Faculty of Letter, Art History and Turkish Art History in Ankara University and started to work as an assistant in 1958. In 1962 she prepared her thesis “Anadolu türbeleri” with Prof. Dr. K. Otto Dorn and consequently completed her doctorate. In 1966 she became an associate professor after completing her thesis “Selçuklu Mimari Dekorasyonu”. In 1971 she received the title of full professor with her work, Bitlis Yapılarında Selçuklu Rönesansı (Ankara 1971). During 1962 and 1965 she worked with Prof. Dr. J. Kollwitz at the Christian Archaeology Institution in Friburg University, Germany. She also participated in the excavation works in Foça (with Ord. Prof. Dr. Ekrem Akurgal) and Kubad Abad (with Prof. Dr. K. Otto Dorn), Peçin, Alanya and Hasankeyf. She started the project “Determination, Excavation, Protection and Restoration for Turkish monuments in Mongolia”. She taught as a visiting professor at the Middle East Technical University, Hacettepe University, and Konya Selçuk University. She served as the director of the Department of Art History, the director of UNESCO Turkish National Commission, the Dean of Faculty of Letter and the counselor of Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. She is one of the members of German Archaeology Institution. Prof. Arık founded the Department of Japanese Language and Culture in the Faculty of Letter. She attended and lectured at many international congresses and symposiums and has participated in research and international meetings throughout the World. Prof. Arık has also numerous publications.
