Prof. Dr. Haluk Abbasoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1943. After graduating from the Department of Classic Archaeology at Istanbul University, he became a director in the Faculty of Letters, Antalya Region Archaeology Research Center. In 1985, he worked as director in the Perge Excavation Project, which was held by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. After that, he served as Supporting Dean in the Faculty of Letters, Board Committee Member in the Faculty of Letters, Board Committee Member in the Institute of Social Sciences, Department Chair in the Department of Classic Archaeology, Department Chair in the Department of Archaeology and Art History, Department Chair in the Department of Archaeology, and Senator in Istanbul University. Currently, Prof. Abbasoğlu serves as Department Chair in the Department of Archaeology of the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University.
