Dr. Filiz Yenişehiroğlu is a faculty member at the Department of Art History of Koç University. After studying at American College for Girls in Istanbul from 1959 to 1968, she studied at University of Sorbonne in Paris in 1968-1972. In the same time, she also studied Art History at her alma mater. She pursued her study in Islam and Archeology at the University of Paris IV between 1971 and 1973. She continued her doctoral degree in Islamic Art and Archeology at the University of Paris IV in 1973-1976, and received her doctorate at the University of Paris-Sorbonne in 1981. Dr. Yenişehirlioğlu served as an Assistant Professor at Hacettepe University from 1976 to1985. In 1986, she went to the US, and worked as a visiting scholar in the Aga Khan Program of Islamic and Architecture at Harvard University. She received her Professorship in 1990 and served as Professor of History of Ottoman Art and Architecture at Hacettepe University until 1995. From 1995 to 1998, she went to the UK and worked as a Mustafa Kemal Visiting Fellow at the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the University of Cambridge; and as a visiting fellow at Lucy-Cavendish College in Cambridge. After returning to Turkey, Prof. Yenişehirlioğlu continued teaching in the Department of Archaeology and History of Art at Hacettepe University until 2003. She was a Founding Dean and the Professor of Art History and Archaeology, Chairperson of the Visual Arts and Design Department, and the Director of Culture and Art Research Centre at Başkent University in 2003-2008. She then worked as Chairperson of History of Art and Museum Studies Department (2008-2009) and Professor of History of Art in the Faculty of Fine Arts Design and Architecture (2009-2013) at Başkent University.

Prof. Dr. Yenişehirlioğlu has attended and lectured at many international congresses and symposiums. She has numerous publications, and has participated in research and international meetings on Turkish and Islamic art. Dr. Yenişehirlioğlu has received several awards including Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Letters (French Ministry of Culture, 1991), the “Adelaide Ristori” award given in Rome to Women of Recognition in their careers (Rome, 1992), “Scientific Recognition” of Hacettepe University Senate for Scientific Work (Ankara, 1992), and the “Europa Nostra Diploma” Award (together with the Foundation of Laussance Emigrants) (EU, 2006). Currently, Prof. Dr. Yenişehirlioğlu teaches at Koç University. She also serves as director of Vehbi Koç Ankara Studies Research and Application Center in Ankara.
