Prof. Dr. Ayla Ersoy was born in Yozgat in 1949. She graduated from the Department of Art History in the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 1971. She taught Art History at the Istanbul Private Marmara College in 1972-1975. After working at several high schools, she was appointed to the Department of Painting-Work in the Atatürk Faculty of Education at Marmara University in 1982. Ersoy completed her doctoral degree in 1985. In 2000, Dr. Ersoy received the title of Professor and served as the Head of the Department of Painting-Work at Marmara University. In 2002, behalf of Trakya University, Prof. Ersoy founded the Museum of Contemporary Turkish Painting and Sculpture at the Medrese section of the Bayezıt Complex in Edirne. In the same year, she was appointed to the Head of the Department of Turkish Art in the Turkic Research Institute at Marmara University. In 2003, she served as art advisor in the 21st Century Foundation for Education and Culture (YEKÜV).

Prof. Ersoy has published many books including Sanat Kavramlarına Giriş (1983), Türk Tezhip Sanatı (1989), and 500 Türk Sanatçısı (2004). She has also written many articles and papers; and presented them in various national and international conferences and symposiums. After retiring from Marmara University in 2006, she transferred to Doğuş University. Prof. Dr. Ersoy currently teaches at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Yeditepe University.
