Kağıthane was established along the narrow inlaid portion of the Golden Horn. As a part of the imperial garden, the water was controlled by turning it a canal and many water features were added. On its banks, many trees were planted and pavilions were constructed. (Zenanname, IÜK, T5502, 78a.)
