15th ANNUAL ATA-DC TURKISH FESTIVAL

The Turkish Festival is organized by the American Turkish Association of Washington, DC (ATA-DC). Selected as the “Best Festival” and “Best Cultural Festival” by Washington City Paper readers in the past 5 years, this premier event draws tens of thousands of Washingtonians to the streets to experience Turkey’s rich cultural history, its culinary delights, and a variety of live Turkish music and engaging folk dance performances. This year's theme is Istanbul. Istanbul is the only city in the world located on two continents – Europe and Asia. During its more almost 2,000-year history, it has been the capital of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. Explore the wonders of Istanbul.

16th BOSTON TURKISH FILM FESTIVAL

This year’s program continues the tradition of highlighting emerging and established Turkish filmmakers with several appearances by guest directors. Most of the films make their North America or U.S. premieres at the festival. The festival opens with 61 Days (İftarlık Gazoz), a charming story from the Aegean by filmmaker Yüksel Aksu. Acclaimed actor and director Uğur Yücel is the recipient of this year’s Boston Turkish Film Festival Excellence in Turkish Cinema Award. Award ceremony will take place following the North America premiere of the digitally restored version of Mr. Muhsin (Muhsin Bey), a Turkish cinema classic. The festival concludes with prominent Turkish auteur Zeki Demirkubuz’s latest film, Ember (Kor).

21st LONDON TURKISH FILM FESTIVAL

The London Turkish Film Festival (LTFF) was inaugurated by Vedide Kaymak in 1993, she is involved in arts and cultural activities in London promoting Turkish culture and producing short film productions. Over the last decade, Turkish filmmakers, not only in Turkey, but also those living in the rest of the world, have found new creative directions, making critically acclaimed films, and winning awards all over the world. The LTFF has always had an inclusive approach towards programming. Thus, it has provided a platform in the UK for a new generation of film-makers of Turkish origin who live and work in Western Europe. The Festival has also featured programmes of short films, giving an opportunity for the work of young feature and documentary film-makers to be widely seen.

8TH ANNUAL NAZIM HIKMET POETRY FESTIVAL

Nâzım Hikmet Ran was a Turkish poet, playwrite, and novelist, he was recognized as the first modern Turkish poet. His poetry reflects his undiminishing hope for social justice, his love of life, and longing for his homeland. The idea of this festival as a tribute to this preeminent poet emerged among friends in the NC Turkish community who appreciated his work and ideas of his life. As the excitement to organize such a festiveal grew ith encouragment from the community, we started to favor an open event, which would draw on Nâzım’s poetry and its ability to reach and influece other poets, and grow into a poety festival that would feature not only Nâzım’s transcending work but also work from other local talents.
